Sometime after the 1891 census, and before 1896, Roderick moved to Ireland. In 1896 he married Susan Anderson, and they became the parents of two children.

Roderick worked for Harland & Wolff. He worked as the Chief Draughtsman and worked on both the Olympic and Titanic. It is said that he knew the ships almost as well as Thomas Andrews. Roderick and Thomas had worked on many ships together. During the building of the Titanic, he was responsible for the designing of the lifeboats, however, He was not responsible for the amount of lifeboats that were put on the ship.

In April 1912, Roderick sailed on the Titanic as part of the "guarantee group" a group of nine men, all the best from Harland & Wolff's workforce. They were on hand 24/7 to help with any problems the ship may have.

Roderick travelled as a first class passenger, as did Thomas Andrews and William Parr. The rest of the guarantee group travelled in second class.

Roderick Chisholm died in the sinking. His body was never found.

Susan and the children, James and Alice recieved money as class "B" dependants from the Titanic relief fund.

** Note: I am unsure of the street name, it looks like Edminton but I can not be 100 % sure, the same issue occured with the maiden surname of his mother, Mary.
