Ernest was born on 26 October 1877 in Iowa, United States.
He was the son of August and Anna Danbom. Ernest was brother to Alfred, Andrew, Henry and Ada.
Ernest's parents moved to Iowa from Kisa, Sweden in 1867. They set up home in Stanton, Iowa and remained until their deaths. Ernest Danbom was a naturalized citizen of the united states.
on 6 June 1910, Ernest married 26 year old Anna Maria Sigrid Brogren.
Anna, or "sigrid" as she was known, had been born on 10 March 1884 in Langebro,Horn, Kisa, Ostergotland, Sweden. She was the daughter of Magnus Constans Brogren and Anna Lovisa Johansdotter.
Sigrid had emigrated from Sweden sometime before 1910 and went to live with her sister, Mrs. Zachrisson in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
After their marriage, the newlyweds went on a honeymoon to Europe. This turned into an 18 month stay abroad. While in Sweden in November of 1911, a baby boy, was born to the couple. They named him Gilbert Sigvard Emmanuel Danbom.
When Gilbert was 5 months old, he, and his parents travelled to Southampton, England, where they boarded the RMS Titanic as third class passengers.
The Danboms were travelling to California, and later to take up residence in Stanton, Iowa. I have not come across any account of what happened to the Danboms that night. All but one of their party died in the sinking, the only survivor being Miss. Anna Nysten.
The worry and grief of loosing her son, daughter-in-law and grandson, made Ernest's mother seriously ill, almost to the point of death.
Ernest's body was recovered by the Mackay-Bennett. He was buried in Mamrelund cemetery, Stanton, Iowa.
